Frequently Asked Questions:

1.  Do I want to study in the hustle-and-bustle of a city or in a sub-urban town?

In a city setting, transportation is easily accessible and entertainment is also easy to find! This will help lessen student’s homesick. Another reason a student may choose a city is that he/she would like to stay with a local relative, who will take care of the youngster.   On the other hand, a town setting is quiet and safe, and the living standard is relatively lower than that of the big city. The population of such community is almost 95% English-speaking, so an international student will have much opportunity to practice his/her English.

2.  What is the difference between public and private secondary schools?

Public Secondary Schools are funded, operated and monitored by the Provincial Government while private secondary schools are not. Public schools offer homestay service while private schools may also offer residence. Tuition fee of a public school ranges from C$8,000-14,000/year while private school costs C12,000-30,000/year.

4.  What is the Banding of Canada’s schools?

There is no banding in Canada’s schools because almost 90% are public. Hence, the Provincial Government carefully funds and monitors all schools so to maintain a “High Quality of Education”.

5.  Do I receive a free secondary education if I am a Canadian passport-holder?

If your parents reside in Canada and are taxpayers of Canada, then you are entitled to enjoy the education subsidy provided by the Canada government.

However, if your parents are non-residence of Canada (and hence, non-taxpayers), then you MUST pay the international student fee schedule.
